The funding for MDRC has been approved for an innovative new youth development project for the Mulroy area, which will see the group lead out on a two-year programme dedicated to supporting young people from across North Donegal.

Speaking on the announcement of the award of the funding, the Manager of Milford & District Resource Centre, Declan Meehan said “We are delighted to have been awarded funding by the International Fund for Ireland, for a new youth development programme that will support young people that aren’t currently in employment, education or training and who may not have had the opportunity in life to achieve their full potential. The Mulroy Youth Engagement Project, which we call the ‘M.Y.E Future Project’ will see MDRC lead out on a project in support of young people in the community, working with the International Fund for Ireland. The project has been under development for over 9 months now, and we are delighted to learn that our proposal has been successful. The award of funding by the IFI, is a great stamp of approval for MDRC and our ongoing regeneration and development work within the local community. The project is expected to commence in the coming months and will involve the appointment of a youth officer within MDRC. This is a hugely significant investment by the IFI in the wider Milford area, that has the potential to make a lasting impact within the community, benefiting young people and their families” Meehan said. “We are very excited to get this project up and running and to start working with young people and other stakeholders in the area.”

Stephen Barrett, the IFI’s Programme Manager for Donegal said, ‘the IFI has been supporting communities across Donegal with since 1986. This project demonstrates the IFI’s ongoing commitment to community regeneration and development work within the North Donegal area. We know first-hand the tireless work of community groups and volunteers in communities across North Donegal. The ‘M.Y.E Future’ project is one of a series of projects that we have in development across Donegal as part of our new ‘Connecting Communities’ strategy and I look forward to working with Declan and the Board of MDRC in the years ahead.’
