Summer Day Trip 2025 – A Day to Remember at Fort Dunree
This week, the Swilly-Mulroy MS Support Group and Mulroy Swilly Wellness Café set out on our cherished annual summer trip — a day that began with soft rain and grey skies, but quickly brightened into something truly special.
Three busloads of laughter, stories, and anticipation rolled toward Fort Dunree, crossing the water on the Lough Swilly Ferry. The sea air was fresh and the views were taken in on deck by all.
As we stepped out at Fort Dunree, we were welcomed by sweeping views and the calm, timeless energy of the coast. The morning was spent exploring the museum — a quiet journey through history. We watched a short film and wandered among the carefully kept artifacts, each one telling its own story.
Lunch was a delight, prepared with care by Arron and the team at The Grind Coffee Café. Every bite was savoured and appreciated — thank you for making us feel so well looked after.
In the afternoon, we gathered to hear from Rebecca, Artlink’s inspiring Project Coordinator, who introduced us to the powerful work of @aindreasscholz and his exhibition ‘And So I Watch You From Afar (Quintet)’ — striking cyanotypes that left a lasting impression.
We then explored Coast, a group exhibition that invited us to reflect on the meeting place of land and sea — where edges blur, and artists find meaning in tides, textures, and transitions. Each piece offered a different voice, yet all spoke of connection.
With full hearts and rested feet, we took one last stroll to soak in the vast views that Fort Dunree so generously offers. And then, just as the sun lingered in the afternoon sky, it was time to return.
The journey home was filled with chatter and laughter — stories already becoming memories, and memories already becoming treasures.
